Description
A visual exploration and deconstruction of Mayan aesthetics depicting Jaguars
My fascination with Mayan art goes back to my childhood when I first saw images of the murals of Bonampak. I was stunned by the complex cosmology that these images present.
Now I am working on several artworks in which I play and take apart different visual aspects and their meanings within the culture that produced them, with the intention of connecting my artistic work to them. Creating links outside of the frame of the main art history.
The missing visual and material links that are present in the modern Mayan cultures, as well as in general Mexican culture, are not presented in contemporary art as such.
